Looking for a way to incorporate philanthropy into your wedding? Consider donating leftover food to a local kitchen. This act of kindness requires very little effort on the couple’s part.
We all know there’s an abundance of food at weddings, especially if it’s served buffet-style. An easy way to give back to your local community is to donate the leftover food to a local kitchen. I originally heard about this idea in a class I took on special event planning. The teacher suggested that event planners should always consider those in need when planning events. Even if it seems like a small detail to you, asking to have leftover event food donated to a local kitchen could mean not going hungry for a person in need.
Simply get in touch with your caterer and make the request. If the caterer refuses to transport the food, request that they package the leftover food so you can make the delivery. Don’t forget to let the local kitchen/homeless shelter know you’re coming!
