When I launched b.CAUSE designs, my foremost goal was to use web design to encourage philanthropy. There are hundreds of people on the Internet who offer design services to nonprofits, and there are hundreds of more who offer blog design services.
So what makes b.CAUSE designs different?
My work directly supports nonprofits.
Rather than simply charging fees and then donating that payment to a charity, I chose to take it one step further.
My work encourages support of nonprofits.
I don’t take any tax write-off or kick-back benefits. I don’t micromanage which nonprofit receives the money. I don’t even force the amount that is to be donated.
To me, doing those things would make donating feel like a chore. Worse, it would be counterproductive to encouraging others to get involved, take action, and support philanthropy.
By making “payment” be a donation to the blogger’s chosen charity, I put the ball in their court. I hope it encourages initiative on their part and instills a sense of compassion for the charities they research.
